    “I’m Not a Victim, She’s an Abuser”: Masculinity, Victimization, and Protection Orders.Alesha Durfee - 2011 - Gender and Society 25 (3):316-334.
Previous research analyzing masculinity and domestic violence has focused on men’s accounts of the violence they have committed; relatively little research has focused on men’s accounts of victimization. This article critically examines how men negotiate the competing discourses of victimization, hegemonic masculinity, and stereotypes about domestic violence when filing for a domestic violence protection order against a woman partner. Three themes related to gender and victimization emerged from the men’s narratives. First, the men’s descriptions of the violence they had experienced (...)

Who Pays? The Visible and Invisible Costs of Child Care.Alesha Durfee & Marcia K. Meyers - 2006 - Politics and Society 34 (1):109-128.
Although the majority of young children now spend time in nonparental child care, we know relatively little about who provides this care and how its costs are distributed among parents, government, and other family members. In this article we use data from a survey of New York City families with children younger than six to estimate the contribution of parental expenditures, government assistance, and the market value of “donated” caregiving time by family, friends, and relatives. We conclude that uncompensated caregivers (...)

Dostoevskij’s guide to spiritual epiphany in The Brothers Karamazov.Julian W. Connolly - 2007 - Studies in East European Thought 59 (1):39-54.
The essay examines the three main epiphanic experiences in The Brothers Karamazov and shows how Dostoevskij’s treatment of these experiences may offer a guide to spiritual renewal. The three experiences are Alësha’s vision of the resurrected Zosima and transfigured Christ, Dmitrij’s vision of the suffering babe, and Ivan’s vision of the devil (which serves as a counter example to the first two). By examining the content of each of these visions, as well as the parallels and variations in the scenes (...)
